Adding SSL on a old site

Postby srimanta » Sun Jul 31, 2016 10:13 am

Hi,

Looking for your suggestion >>

One of my old blog has decent backlinks and good metrics (DA, PA). Already, I have added free SSL from my host provider. I am so confused, is there any effects on SEO or on MOZ DA update? All backlinks are made on HTTP.

So, Does my site's domain authority drop on next DA update and ranking too? Should I remove the SSL from my site?

Hello Srimanta,

I am not sure what will happen in the next DA update, but just changing from http to https doesn't vanish the DA. I have moved my main site https://www.techtricksworld.com from http to https, and I didn't get any issues.

DA, PA everything is fine as of now. I am waiting for next DA update to see what impacts will come. Apart from this, there are not much issues with ranking. My all keywords which were ranking are still ranking even after https links indexed. You may see temporary ranking fluctuation but it will be stable in a few days.

I don't see any problem moving from http to https. Its a good decision to get it asap. Though, it still not a strong ranking signal in Google, but it will be more important later on. So, its good to move now.

You can check out this discussion started by John Muller on http to https migration => https://goo.gl/MESiGL

Hope this helps!

Srimanta,

I agree with Atish. I too have moved to https and I didn't see any big changes in ranking or something. It looks good to me. Also, as far I have researches about it, its a good decision to go with https.

thanks.

Hi Srimanta,
You can move your site to SSL certification of https without fearing of the rank loss at all. I have recently moved my site DigitalGYD.com to https and that works just fine. You might see a normal increase-decrease of ranking but that is just fine it settles down to normal in just 2 weeks.

If your site is relatively small, in terms of posts, I would suggest moving it to SSL faster because the bigger the site gets the more trouble you might have.

Cheers!

I have recently added on a few of my sites too. I didn't see any ranking down or up. everything is stable. I think it is a good decision to go for https now because in near future it will be a good ranking signal in google.
