Hello Leena,

Thank you so much for appreciating the effort!

Coming to your question which is about Shared Hosting.

Shared Hosting is a type of web hosting on which multiple websites are hosted. Just like our local PCs, there are PCs with high configuration installed by Hosting companies, and they work as servers. Now, when you get a shared hosting, you get a chunk of one of those computers' hard drive and you are also provided with other settings that are needed to run a website. But, the thing is, on the same server multiple other websites are hosted as well, and they use the same server resources which your website uses too.

So technically, there are many downsides of shared hosting like it is not fast as compared to VPS or dedicated hosting because one server serves 100s or 1000s of websites that affect the performance. There are security issues as well as sometimes if one website hosted on the same server gets virus infection, other websites may be at the risk of getting the same virus infection as well. However, this is a rare problem.

Still, Shared Hosting is being used by most of the people around because it is quite cheaper as compared to VPS or Dedicated hosting. Also, you don't need to do any server administration because everything is done by hosting company, and they offer a dedicated Control Panel which is quite user-friendly. Any user with little knowledge of tech can easily do stuff using Cpanel. Software and scripts are installed already for you to use.

On the other hand, when you get VPS server, you have to pay more for it because every website is assigned a separate server and system resource that make your site load fast and more secure. But, in that you need to know more of server setting and administration knowledge. You need to install software and scripts on the server by yourself.

Shared hosting is quite well for blogs and small business websites. But, if you are going to run an e-commerce website or any heavy traffic website, you must go for VPS hosting.

I hope this answer clarifies all of your doubts or confusions related to shared hosting.
