Site Map

Postby Leennna » Wed Feb 22, 2017 7:14 pm

What are Site Map and its relevance?

They say we need to create two sitemaps one for the user and the other for search engines. Why is that ?

Sitemap as the name says, is a presentation of your site pages on one single page to let people or search engine know about the site's structure and they can easily navigate through the posts.

Yes, there basically two types of Sitemaps (Moreover there are many like video sitemaps, etc).

First, XML sitemap which is for Search engines. This page tells the complete linking structure and pages on your site to Search Engine which make it easy for SEs to index your pages.

Second, HTML Sitemap which is for Users. YOu need such sitemap when you have a big site. SO that you can place a page where you show all the navigation of your site. Like which pages and posts are in which category.. etc.. everything is shown in a way that makes users work easier to navigate to a specific page or section of your website or blog.

Let me know if you have any confusion understanding this.

Yes for now, you go with only XML sitemap.

You must have Yoast plugin installed on your blog! It creates sitemap automatically if not you need to enable the option in its setting.. Do check here if it is already there example.com/sitemap_index.xml.

If it is there.. you can submit it to your Google search console account!

Hi Leennna,
I can see your sitemap here http://scoopoflives.com/sitemap_index.xml .

This alone should solve your issue. If you want to submit it to search engines, you have to use their webmaster tools and add the URL where it asks for.

That's it you don't have to worry again.
